The reception of the series was on Cinco de Mayo, which is what inspired the theme of Mexican American culture in the work. Exploring cultural themes and the intersection of identity, masculinity, and cultural appropriation creates thought-provoking work and adds depth to the conversation around representation in contemporary art. an interesting exploration of Mexican American pop culture as seen through the lens of a middle class white Californian. The use of Dia de los Muertos sugar skull characters posing as lucha libre wrestlers on mini cornhole boards and Antonio Banderas as Desperado on an abstract background adds a unique twist to the subject matter.
